Read this before the numbers

  • Owners post when something breaks. Reddit skews negative by nature. Nobody starts a thread to say their vacuum still works.
  • Reviewers test new units for a short time. Many problems owners complain about, like upkeep, apps and breakdowns, show up after months.
  • Some YouTube reviews are sponsored. We can't reliably tell disclosed sponsorships, undisclosed ones and independent reviews apart, so we count them all like any other source. Reddit has its share of disguised promotion too.
  • AI labels each opinion as positive or negative. One AI agent labels it and others cross-check the label. Every point links to the sentence it came from, so you can check any of them.
  • “An opinion” means one source's view on one topic. A source that covers five topics counts five times; a source that mentions a topic ten times counts once.

Where they disagree most

  • Robot vacuums, upkeep and consumables: Reddit 71% negative (31), YouTube 18% (57). On the app: Reddit 50% negative (44), YouTube 9% (126).
  • Coffee machines, milk and steam: Reddit 76% negative (37), YouTube 11% (47).
  • Smart glasses, fit and comfort: Reddit 53% negative (32), YouTube 22% (49). On the display: Reddit 50% negative (40), YouTube 18% (44).
  • Smart rings, build and durability: Reddit 93% negative (15), YouTube 14% (21). On subscription and value: Reddit 81% negative (16), YouTube 15% (13).
  • Tennis ball machines: too few opinions per topic to compare. No topic has 10 or more opinions on both platforms.

Why we look at both

Reviewers tell you how a product works on day one. Owners tell you how it holds up. Either one alone gives a skewed picture, which is why our rankings count both, and why every score links back to the quotes behind it.

Method

  • Sources: YouTube reviews, Reddit threads, review sites, forums and Hacker News threads about each product. Reddit threads are found and collected by our own crawler.
  • Each source counts once per product and topic. Mixed opinions (positive and negative on the same topic) are excluded from the shares above.
  • Products: the models shown by default on each ranking (currently on sale).
  • Download the counts (CSV): category × topic × platform, with positive, negative and mixed counts. No quotes or usernames.
