your laser is trying to home and hitting the limit switch. The switch isn't being activated — either it's wired wrong, being blocked, or it's a bad switch.

It can move freely, but once it gets to a certain point — generally at the front — it just grinds. I haven't been able to get it to go to a specific point on its work area since I got it. It goes a couple inches and stops, or just grinds and doesn't move.
