Gotrax F2v2 Independent Review
- Motor, Assist & Gears-1 pts
The pedal assist isn’t great because at level 1 I’m pedaling harder than I want, and at 3+ I can’t really pedal because the bike goes too fast.
- Brakes & Lights+1 pts
The brakes also seem to work great.
- Comfort & Fit0 pts
The seat is okay for short rides, but after 20 minutes it gets annoying.
- Build & Reliability0 pts
Every component feels well made except the flimsy plastic wheel protector on the front left wheel.

Hey everyone. I recently got my Gotrax F2V2, and while I was shopping it was really hard to find an independent, non-sponsored review. So I decided to write one for anyone else looking for a budget ebike, especially in Canada. This bike is basically the equivalent of Lectric bikes since Canadians can’t buy those anymore, and it’s a bit cheaper too ($1050 CAD). I’m scoring from 1 (what preschool chimp designed this thing) to 5 (damn that's fantastic). 1. Aesthetics: 3. It actually looks better in person than online. I like the paint and that everything is metal. The logo is kind of huge and ugly, but less noticeable in person. Everything feels high quality and the wheels are big enough that it doesn’t look odd. 2. Comfort: 2. The ride isn’t too bumpy, but a suspension seatpost upgrade would be nice. The suspension is stiffer than I’d like even at minimum preload. The seat is okay for short rides, but after 20 minutes it gets annoying. 3. Function: 4. The bike is zippy and I’ve had zero functionality issues so far. The pedal assist isn’t great because at level 1 I’m pedaling harder than I want, and at 3+ I can’t really pedal because the bike goes too fast. That’s probably because there’s no torque sensor. The folding mechanisms fit and work great. The DC jack cover can pop out while riding, which is annoying, and the key slot under the bike for the battery/ignition is also annoying. Handling is fantastic in my opinion and the tires are wide enough to handle gravel easily. Best of all, it’s actually legal in Canada at 500W, which is way more than enough for me (~200 lb guy). The brakes also seem to work great. 4. Value: 5. This bike is great bang for your buck. It has lots of features and comes with accessories like a bar lock, phone holder, and mirrors that are all functional. Every component feels well made except the flimsy plastic wheel protector on the front left wheel. 5. Other notes: the unboxing and assembly instructions are just awful. It feels like all they needed was IKEA-style instructions to make assembly easy—it’s not hard to assemble, just tell me how to do it properly. The instructions are just far-away photos with mediocre notes. The mirror and phone holder accessories have no instructions at all, so installing the mirrors was mostly guesswork. Overall: I’d buy this bike again. Its value for money is hard to beat and the issues are minimal/fixable. I might buy a new seat, but otherwise I’m all set. Edit: I’m 6ft tall. After about 120km the rear tire bladder popped without being punctured, so the bladders are pretty weak. Either I got a faulty one or they’re all not great, I’m not sure.
