Looking At Finally Replacing My Old Honeywell
Hey guys, this is a follow up to the post I made about two months ago of me wanting to replace our old Honeywell w/ proprietary EIM module with the Ecobee Smart thermostat Premium and I received a ton of valuable feedback especially from u/JustAnotherSvcTech [URL] I created a flowchart (image 1) of what I think I need to do and I also emailed Ecobee to make sure this will work and I won't fuck anything up/burn the house down lol. below is what they emailed me back: *Thank you for reaching out to ecobee Support* *It looks like your thermostat is utilizing "communicating" terminals, which are not compatible with ecobee thermostats. Our devices require conventional 24VAC connections (R, G, Y, W, C) to control an HVAC system.* *With that said, this thermostat connects to what is known as an "EIM," which is a control board that sits between your thermostat and your furnace, and can convert these communicating terminals to conventional terminals. Could you please share pictures of the HVAC control board wiring?* *Otherwise, these wires will terminate at the same communicating terminals as those labeled on your thermostat. If this is the case, these terminals may function to control a variable-speed fan in your furnace, which is not a function of ecobee thermostats. Your furnace control board may have "DIP switches" which can be reconfigured to make a row of conventional terminals on the furnace control board available for use. If you have these DIP switches, and you are comfortable losing any variable fan speed control that may currently exist with this thermostat, you could consult your furnace's user manual to determine how to reconfigure these DIP switches to make the conventional terminals available for use. You might also prefer to speak with an HVAC technician about making these adjustments to your furnace control board.* Can I please have you experts review my flowchart and let me know if it is OK? Ofcourse I will take pictures of everything before I start switching wires around just in case I need to revert back, but still I would appreciate any help/support i can get on this <3 thanks
