Painless Printing

  • Materials, Multicolor & Versatility+1 pts

After many years and untold hours tuning and tweaking my home built 3D printer, I finally caved and bought a Creality K1C. Many thanks to numerous people on Reddit who shared their experiences and reviews of their printers. It was a close call between a Creality Hi with CFS vs the K1C on its own, which can be upgraded to the CFS for a reasonable price if multi-material calls to me loud enough. I had a 300x300x400 Flsun bed slinger I bought about 6 years ago and have almost totally rebuilt with all sorts of enhancements. I do enjoy the tinkering, tuning and trying many things out. The reality is, I could seldom just print on it without something failing. Big prints were really risky. Installing Klipper and Orcaslicer made big differences to it over Marlin. Getting a filament dryer was game changing. After reading so many posts here about print issues and nearly all of them boiling down to moisture in the filament, I figured if I was going to go commercial, a dryer was a no brainer. I ended up with a Creality Space Pi Plus. Unpacking and setting up the K1C was really simple and easy. I used black PLA to print the benchy. 15 minutes. Flawless print with 0.2mm layer height. I did see people complain about the noise of this printer. At full speed with the top cover off, it does sound like a jet engine at full throttle. The top cover goes a really long way to dampening the sound. Compared to my home built beast the sound doesn’t bother me at all. There’s always the slower quieter speeds if it bothers people. It makes a world of difference just being able to print with zero drama. Walk away and not have to worry about jams, filament jams, and runouts. Filament changes in the K1C are so easy. Even without the CFS. Now I’m looking forward to actually printing for a change!
