    • Included sensor averages temperatures across rooms
    • Siri and Alexa are built into the thermostat

    Why it ranks
Plus and minus controls on the main screen and separate room sensors make everyday comfort simple to manage, and the maker's policy is not to sell personal data. A C-wire is required, and beyond basic adjustments the thermostat leans on its app.
    What people praise
    • Main controls sit on one screen, a tap away
    • Separate room sensors make a noticeable difference
    • Maker's policy is not to sell personal data
    Common complaints

    Why it ranks
Push-in wire clips keep a do-it-yourself install simple, and once connected the heating can be checked and adjusted from a phone or by voice through Alexa, Google Assistant or Siri. Homes without a C-wire need a power extender kit or a new wire run, adding cost and work.

    • Push-in clips make connecting wires simple
    • Heating can be monitored and controlled from a phone
    • Works with Alexa, Google Assistant and Apple HomeKit

+64Ranking net score+64 from reviews and discussions0 from votes on BettaScore
    6 sources
    Why it ranks
Fitting it in place of the old radiator thermostat takes no tools, and it can shut off radiators in empty rooms or while a wood stove is running. The display can be hard to read with poor eyesight, and a valve may keep passing water in stop-heating mode.
    What people praise
    • Installation is simple and needs no tools
    • Can pair with an external sensor for more accurate readings
    • Works with Apple Home and supports Matter
    Common complaints

    NEST Smart Thermostat

+30Ranking net score+30 from reviews and discussions0 from votes on BettaScore
    9 sources
    Why it ranks
Close ties to the Google Home app and a clean, minimalist look suit a household already built around Google. The swipe-and-tap controls on the unit can miss inputs or register accidental ones, and the app is less suited to a first smart thermostat.
    What people praise
    • Clean, minimalist design
    • Runs from the Google Home app alongside other Google devices
    Common complaints
    • Swipes can fail to register or trigger by accident
    • App is hard going for first-time users

How this list is ranked

Who is eligible
Every smart thermostat in our reviewed catalogue is included, wall and radiator models alike. Second listings of the same thermostat are left out. The list opens on current models, those released in the last 2½ years (since Apr 2024); choose Include older models under Models to list them too. A product without a release date on record is always listed.
How they are ordered
By default, products are ordered by Ranking Net Score: points from reviews and discussions plus points from votes on BettaScore. Ties go to the product with more sources. Filtering or sorting renumbers the results from No. 1. Products without scored evidence stay Unranked and are not numbered.
Where the evidence comes from
71 public review sources across the matching products. Select a review topic on any card to see the quotes behind its points.
When it changes
The product list and review scores change only when we publish a reviewed update. Signed-in visitors can vote on each review topic (open a topic on a card): every vote adds or takes 0.1 points from that topic and from the Ranking Net Score straight away, and the order follows on the next page load. Votes are stored apart from review evidence, so they carry over between updates. Review evidence is from October 5, 2026.
Who pays for it
Nobody. BettaScore does not accept payment for placement. Each card shows review points and topic-vote points separately, even though their sum sets the default order.

What to look for in a smart thermostat

Start with compatibility: your heating and cooling system, whether you have a C-wire, and the smart home system you use. Radiator thermostats fit a different setup from wall thermostats.

Then compare what the evidence says about installation, scheduling and automation, the app, and energy savings.

Questions to take to every card on this page

  • Does it work with your heating and cooling system and wiring?
  • Can you install it yourself?
  • Do the scheduling and automation fit how you live?
  • Does it work with your smart home system?

Frequently asked questions

What does this smart thermostat list cover?
All reviewed smart thermostats in our catalogue. Products with scored review evidence get a rank; the rest stay on the list, marked Unranked.
How is the default order calculated?
Ranking Net Score adds points from reviews and discussions to points from BettaScore votes, and each card shows both parts. A vote counts right away: it updates the card and can move the product in the list.
How do filters and sorting affect rank?
They apply to the whole list and renumber the results: scored matches start from No. 1, and products without scored review evidence stay Unranked. Filtering and sorting never change a product's review or vote points.
Why are some specifications missing?
BettaScore shows only the facts it has on record. An unknown value is not treated as No, and we never fill a missing specification or evidence section with a made-up claim.
Where do the Type, Works with, heating & cooling and C-wire filters come from?
From each maker's own product, compatibility and support pages, checked thermostat by thermostat, not from whether a review happened to mention them. A platform or system the maker does not name is simply not listed for that thermostat.
