Hi everyone, I've been deep into coffee for a few years now, starting with espresso and shifting more toward pour over in the last year or so. I've had my eye on the xBloom Studio since it launched and finally decided to get one during their Black Friday sale. I wanted to share some early thoughts in case anyone else is thinking about buying it. Overall build: The machine feels really solid and well-made, and it's actually smaller in footprint than I expected. However, it is tall, and you need to access the top for water and beans, so if you have lower cabinets, it might not fit underneath—definitely measure first. The exterior is mostly a nice textured plastic, the metal knobs on the front feel good, and the pixel-style display is easy to read. The water tank is small, holding about 3-4 cups worth before needing a refill, and it's removable which is handy. You can also plumb it in, but that's not possible for me. Overall, I'm happy with the build quality; it doesn't feel overpriced for what you get. Dialing in: Dialing in isn't hard, but it's very app-centric. Connecting my phone to the machine was seamless, and I could easily tweak settings and load recipes. The app comes with standard recipes, and there's a library with many more for various beans and roasters. One super useful thing I found on the xBloom subreddit was a ChatGPT instance someone made for dialing in beans. I added a link to the beans I bought and it generated a decent recipe formatted for the xBloom app. From there, I gave feedback and it adjusted until I was happy—it took about 3 cups. Without that GPT, I'd probably be more frustrated since there are so many variables. You can save recipes, share them, and preload them onto one of three presets on the machine, which I did to make it easier for my wife. I haven't had any issues with the app so far, though I know some people have. Workflow: It's super simple. Add beans, put in a filter, press start on the app or the machine, and enjoy your coffee. One downside is the grinder's sound—it's high-pitched and fairly loud. We have a Niche Zero for espresso that has a deeper, more pleasant sound when grinding. We also have a K-Ultra for pour over that sounds the best, but it's manual so not a fair comparison. Grind quality seems good, pretty on par with my other grinders; I don't notice much difference in particle size. It would be nice if they could fit a flat burr grinder in there, but since I've mostly used conical grinders, it's not a big deal. I've had a few issues with taller cups getting caught on the brewer as it moves, and once the filter snagged on the grinder, causing beans to fall into the drip tray, but that was more my error than the machine's. The Pods: Not good. It comes with an 8-pack of their cocoa drops pods and a recipe card for optimal brewing. You tap the card on the machine, and the NFC sets up the recipe. Maybe those beans just aren't our thing, but we generally didn't like the coffee from them. Plus, I hate the concept of pods. The recipe card idea is neat, though I wish I could reprogram the card via the app with my own custom recipe. You can do that...
